Hi! How Can We Help?
How to Use the Fridge and Pantry List?
Fridge & Pantry keeps a list of the food you have at home, in three tabs: Fridge, Pantry and Freezer. Here is how to fill it in and keep it up to date.
Open Fridge & Pantry
- Open the WiseList app and tap My Lists in the bottom navigation bar.
- Under Kitchen, tap Fridge & Pantry.
- Tap Fridge, Pantry or Freezer at the top to switch between them.
Add items
There are four ways.
- From your grocery list. Tick an item off as you shop and it lands in your fridge, pantry or freezer by itself.
- With Scan Receipt. Tap Scan a receipt, take a photo of your receipt, and WiseList adds what you bought. See How to Use Scan Receipt.
- By hand. Tap the plus button, type the item’s name and choose a category. Say whether it is already opened, then save.
- By scanning a barcode. Tap the plus button, then Scan a barcode, and take a photo of the barcode on the pack. WiseList finds the product and asks where it goes: Fridge, Pantry or Freezer. Tap Add. If the camera does not open, you can type the number under the barcode instead.
Set use-by dates
- Tap an item, then Edit date, to set its use-by date yourself.
- Or tap Suggest dates. WiseList estimates a date for each item without one, from its typical shelf life. Accept the ones that look right and change the rest.
- When you open something, tap Opened it? on the item. Its use-by date is brought forward.
Each item has a coloured ring that shows whether it is expired, needs using, fresh or has no date. Use the sort button to put the items that expire first at the top.
Get a reminder
WiseList sends a reminder the morning before an item reaches its use-by date. Notifications must be on for WiseList in your phone’s settings, and only items with a date are included.
When something is used up
- Tap the item and change How many if you still have some left.
- Tap Remove when it is gone.
- Tap + List to put it back on your grocery list.
The Freezer tab
Frozen food you tick off your grocery list, scan from a receipt or add by barcode lands in the Freezer tab. To add something yourself, open the Freezer tab and tap the plus button. Frozen food keeps for months, so it is not given a use-by date. Tap an item if you would like to set one anyway.
Share with your household
Tap the people icon at the top of the screen to share your shelves with the people in your household. They can see your items, set a use-by date, mark something as opened and remove it. Sharing needs WiseList+.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Fridge & Pantry in the app?
Tap My Lists in the bottom navigation bar, then Fridge & Pantry under Kitchen.
Is Fridge & Pantry free?
Yes, with as many items as you like. Household sharing is part of WiseList+. Scan Receipt is free for 2 receipts a month, and you can add 3 items by barcode for free.
How many items can I add by barcode?
You can add 3 items by barcode for free in total. After that, adding by barcode needs WiseList+. Adding by hand, from your grocery list or with Scan Receipt does not count towards the 3.
What if WiseList does not know the product I scanned?
Tap the option to type its name instead, and add it by hand. Nothing is added until you tap Add, and a product WiseList does not know does not use one of your free barcode adds.
Why didn’t I get a reminder?
Reminders cover only items that have a use-by date, and notifications must be on for WiseList in your phone’s settings. The reminder arrives the morning before the date.
Where do the suggested dates come from?
They are estimates from the typical shelf life of each kind of food, counted from the day you added it. They are a guide, not a guarantee: check the date on the pack and trust your senses.
Why do some items say no date is needed?
Frozen food and household things that do not go off, such as cleaning products, are not given a use-by date.
An item went into the wrong place. Can I move it?
Remove it and add it again in the right tab.
What can I cook with what I have?
Tap Use It Up for meal ideas that start with the food that needs using first. See How to Use the Use It Up List.
